For the life of me, I don't know why anyone with 2 working brain-cells that are acquainted with each other can believe that "social proof" exists at all, online. The technologies to make and manage "sock-puppet" user accounts, be they human-run or automated, have been available for well past 15 years.
Just like record sales, social proof is an imperfect metric that is easily exploited. Back in the day, it was about dumping CDs in a warehouse and saying your artist went platinum. Now you just need to make a bunch of fake accounts. Same game, new tools
“just another sad example of how the music industry is a shell game explicitly designed to redistribute wealth away from artists and back into the pockets of outside interlopers” 👍🏻

Curious about what they’ll come up with next, haha! Thanks for reading and stoked for you to hear the album!!

Right; but why would anyone believe in social proof at all anymore? It's not just an "imperfect metric"; it's a flat-out false one.
