I first became aware of Detroit rapper Veeze from 2021’s “Law N Order” where he cruelly violated a retired NBA player in memorable fashion: “My lil’ n**** black and ugly, shoot like Tony Snell.” He’s returned with one of the year’s best rap albums, Ganger. In contrast to the frenetic punch-in style that has become synonymous with the sound of Detroit rap, Veeze has a slippery, narcotized delivery, dropping punchlines with a subtle deadpan that would have Steven Wright nodding with approval. The words practically falling out of his mouth, Veeze directs a fusillade of hilarious images at you across the album.
