Sorry that I haven’t posted in awhile! The last two months have been some of the busiest of my entire life. Mostly I had to take time away from the newsletter to focus on finishing my book. I’m in the home stretch now. It’s by far the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do. Making an album is hard but writing a book requires a level of sustained focus that can be incredibly difficult to find. I spent a week at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island and the magical properties of that particular area certainly helped the progress of the book. I’ve been working on it for almost two years now! It’s interesting to see how the process changes and shifts over time. Sometimes the words are flowing and other times, you’re just organizing ideas and not even really writing anything. It’s often perplexing but ultimately very rewarding and I can see myself doing it more in the future. Bedroom Rapper is coming out in May 2022 and I’m beyond thrilled for you all to read it!
I’ve returned to playing live shows over the summer and the experience of touring has taken a bit of an adjustment, especially when dealing with the new circumstances of what that means in our pandemic reality. Most of the festivals I’ve played have had limited capacity with people seated while socially distanced from each other. It’s been weird. That said, these shows have reminded me of the true cultural value of live music. I’ve gotten some real joy from playing in far-flung locations that probably don’t often have people come up to perform. I’ve started thinking of touring as a public service, a personal duty to disseminate art, culture and ideas. The emotional relief I can provide to people watching me perform feels more important than ever.
Finally, after an interminable wait, the Parallel World vinyl came in. I picked them up from the label office on Wednesday and have personally spent the last four days individually packaging, labelling, delivering and shipping almost 200 copies of the album out to folks from all around Canada, USA, UK, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Taiwan and Japan. Thank you for your patience! I think you’ll be pleased with how it turned out, it’s definitely worth the wait. If you want a copy of your own, you can grab it on my Bandcamp page.
I’m playing the 20th anniversary of POP Montreal this Friday September 24 at L'Entrepôt77. This festival holds a special place in my heart and I’m looking forward to playing alongside my band for all my Mile End friends and my Parc Ex connects. Make sure you grab a ticket ASAP if you wanna come thru.
I’m playing two back-to-back shows with my band at The Garrison in Toronto on September 28th and 29th. The second show is sold out but there are still a handful of tickets left for the September 28th date. Don’t hesitate as there’s very limited capacity!
My fall American tour with Fat Tony is rapidly approaching. I couldn’t be more excited to get back on the road and share these new songs with y’all!
