My new single “Press Eject” is out now on all platforms!
Being an artist in the 21st century has been challenging on many levels for myself and my peers. We have to try to break through an oversaturated media landscape and battle head-to-head with massive corporations who have endless resources in the hope that our art can somehow share an inch of space on the same platforms as them. It’s a constant struggle.
At the same time, we bring our audiences to these platforms and the tech companies throttle our reach, force us to pay to get our art in front of you and control our ability to share anything with you, all while they profit handsomely. But our presence is what gives apps their value. This is something I’ve been reminding myself of whenever I’m fretting over the algorithm. If we all left at the same time, none of these places would last.
There’s this 24/7 grindset mentality ascribed to being an artist today by tech companies that I find incredibly exhausting. It’s the idea that an artist has to release four albums a year, tour endlessly, do constant press, become a social media influencer with a manicured online presence and collab with the right brands just to make a dent in the algorithm. Music feels less and less central to what we do as artists.
So that’s why I wrote “Press Eject.” It’s a song about rejecting the attention economy. It’s an anthem of techno-revolt, reminding us of our own agency when it comes to using these apps. Ironically, promoting this song on social media without paying for ads has been a challenge. I’m thankful to be able to reach y’all directly with this newsletter. I hope you’ll give “Press Eject” a listen.

Loving Press Eject. Will the vinyl album be available over here in the UK? Bandcamp postage is a bit steep. Thanks 🙂
