I'm the inaugural Atkinson Artist!
A three-year appointment where I hope to inspire and build social movements
Happy to announce that I am the inaugural Atkinson Artist! I’ll be collaborating with the Atkinson Foundation over the next three years, focusing on making art in the spirit of the decent work movement.
I first met the Atkinson Foundation team at the My Labour Our Future conference during ILO100 in 2019, where I spoke to the other attendees about the precarious nature of being a working musician. I told my story about my old label situation and learned that what I went through was just as common in other industries. That experience inspired me to think of ways to further use my platform to create social change.
As Atkinson Artist, I’m looking forward to fighting for fair economies through my writing, performances and collaborations. Read more about the news here!
This week, the Bedroom Rapper book tour continues in Edmonton on Thursday June 16 at Glass Bookshop at 7 pm where I’ll be in conversation with Vish Khanna. You can reserve your free ticket here. After that, I’ll be DJing at The Common, hope to see all the homies out for that.
And then I’m back in Toronto for a conversation with Melissa Vincent at Type Books Junction on Friday June 17 at 7 pm. And the afterparty for that will be a disco extravaganza a couple years in the making at Vashe Zdorov’ye (3001 Dundas St. West), you can grab tickets for that here.
You can find me updating my playlist, DJing on Twitch or hanging on Twitter and Instagram. You can listen to Cadence Weapon music on Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp and you can cop Cadence Weapon merchandise here. Get your copy of Bedroom Rapper here.
