Been dying to share this news with you and the day is finally here: my memoir Bedroom Rapper comes out on McClelland & Stewart / Penguin Random House Canada on May 31st and you can pre-order it here!
Bedroom Rapper charts my journey from making beats in my mom’s attic in Edmonton to winning the Polaris Prize. But it’s also about underground rap, music journalism, being Black in Canada, grime, the beauty of lyricism, the Montreal loft party scene, activism, trap music and sketchy record deals.
I wrote Bedroom Rapper and recorded Parallel World at the same time. It was really interesting to comb through my past while the world was paused. Revisiting all that old stuff inspired the future direction of my career. Really excited to share this book with y’all! I’ll be posting an excerpt in the newsletter closer to the release date but just know that the memoir will feature all the magical music observations you’ve come to expect from this mailing list and more.
